Sharjah24 – Reuters: Hidden in the Hajar mountain range is a new heart-thumping experience, hurtling visitors down the highest mountain in the UAE.
The ‘Jais Sledder’ - said to be the region's longest alpine coaster - is now open for the public, the latest activity hoping to attract more visitors to Jabal Jais.
Thrill-seekers get in a small two-seater cart, are tightly strapped in, and rush along the 1,885 metre long track at speeds that can reach 40 kilometres per hour. The ride is open to children as young as three years old - who must be accompanied by an adult.
As well as the adrenaline-inducing speed, riders also get stunning panoramic views of the mountain range.
Several other activities, including a paragliding experience and a large mountain swing, are expected to open in the area, as the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism authorities attempt to promote sustainable ecotourism in Jabal Jais.
