Sharjah24 - Reuters: 7-year-old Joshua Martinangeli is ill. He can still connect with his instructor and classmates via an avatar robot that sits in class and blinks when he has something to say.
"On occasion, the pupils even chitchat with him throughout class. Joshi can do that, too.

Joshua cannot attend lessons because of a serious lung illness, according to his mother Simone Martinangeli.

The project is a private initiative funded by Marzahn-Hellersdorf district council.

"We are the only district in Berlin with four school avatars. The catalyst was COVID-19, but I believe this is the route of the future "Bezirksschulrat Torsten Kuehne

"Sometimes, for various reasons, a youngster cannot attend class in person. The avatar can then help that youngster stay in the school community,” Kuehne said.
He stated that he had brought up the subject in state political debates.

"I enjoy it anyway because I like the avatar," said student Noah Kuessner.
