Due to high demand, Ford already increased its production target from 40,000 to 80,000 trucks per year. Three-quarters of the bookings for the popular vehicle are from non-Ford owners, the company confirmed.
The US electric car industry is heating up, and Ford aims to invest over $30 billion in the category by 2025. The company has previously declared plans to raise manufacturing of its first electric Mustang, the Mach-E, to almost 200,000 vehicles per year by 2023.
Tesla, the category leader, revealed on Sunday that it will deliver 936,000 vehicles globally in 2021, an 87% increase over 2020. GM plans to sell 30 electrified cars by 2025, including a Silverado truck that will be unveiled on Wednesday.
