Sharjah 24 - AFP: Deviants’ assaults in Niassa province, near insurgent hub Cabo Delgado, forced about 4,000 Mozambicans to flee their settlements in a month.
Formerly terrorizing northern Cabo Delgado region, militants have now moved their focus westward towards Niassa.

"So far 3,803 displaced. Residents of Mecula district who escaped attacks "AFP talked to Felismino Patricio, a provincial administration official.

It brings the total number of displaced people fleeing Cabo Delgado to almost 820,000.

Militants pushed from Cabo Delgado by African forces have now targeted Niassa province.

Rwandan and SADC troops have been helping the Mozambican army fight insurgents since July.

In late November, deviants raided Niassa's Mecula neighbourhood. A dozen people have died in recent raids on neighboring settlements.

In Mecula, the displaced are sheltered in public schools or with family and friends.

A resident of Mecula town told AFP by phone that "everyday people from the villages avoid the attacks."

Attacks by deviants forced Regina Atanasio, 30, to flee her town near Lichengue on December 15.

Her husband and children left with her after the attack began at 6:00 pm.

On December 23, an assault murdered a police inspector and abducted hundreds of people.

Females were taken in the last attack on Alassima hamlet, roughly five kilometres from Mecula.
