Dutch head into Christmas 'lockdown' to stop Omicron: PM

December 19, 2021 / 6:19 AM
Sharjah24 – AFP: Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announces the Netherlands will go into lockdown, as "Omicron is forcing us to limit our number of contacts as quickly as possible". This is "another Christmas that is completely different from what we would like", he adds.
Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister said, "Tonight it's about this main message: Omicron is forcing us to limit our number of contacts as quickly as possible, and as much as possible, which is why the Netherlands will be in lockdown from tomorrow. And I can now hear the whole of the Netherlands sighing. This is exactly one week before Christmas. Another Christmas that is completely different from what we would like."

Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister stated, "What does the lockdown mean in concrete terms? That means, to begin with, that the standard for home visits goes down to two people. So you're able to receive a maximum of two guests from the age of 13 and up at home. Outside, two people will be the maximum group size allowed, unless you go outside with your own household and with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and New Year's Eve."

The Dutch Prime Minister added, "The lockdown then means that all stores will close. Order and pick up at the door, which used to be called "click and collect", is allowed. "

He continued, "The museums, theaters, cinemas and concert halls are closed, as are theme parks and zoos and just like the hospitality industry and events sector. Food take-out is allowed. An exception applies in some areas, such as a supremarkets and grocery stores."
