Sharjah 24 – AFP: Seven police officers were killed and five wounded on Friday in an attack in Burkina Faso's restive northeast, near Niger and Mali, police said.
Burkina Faso has been hit by terrorist attacks since 2015, mostly in the northern and eastern regions close to Mali and Niger -- countries facing their own struggles against terrorists -- but also in the south.
The officers were "the target of an attack by armed people near Alkoma bridge," national police said in a statement without specifying who the perpetrators might be.
"As a result of the attack, seven police officers were unfortunately killed. Five others were injured and evacuated to the regional hospital of Dori, where they are currently being treated," they said.
Security forces were deployed in the area in search operations, police director general Jean Bosco Kienou said.
