Sharjah 24 – KUNA: UN Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Najat Rochdi announced on Friday a collective response plan evaluated at USD 383 million to meet the basic needs of Lebanon migrants and refugees.
Speaking at a news conference, Rochdi said that the plan includes 119 projects and aims at "providing critical life-saving assistance and protection over the coming 12 months to 1.1 million Lebanese and migrants among the most vulnerable, in the sectors of education, food security, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, child protection and protection against gender-based violence".
She highlighted the crisis facing Lebanon that includes "an economic and financial meltdown, the disastrous impact of the Beirut port explosions and the COVID-19 outbreak".
Months-long political deadlock has added much to this multi-faceted crisis, fueling popular protests and delaying meaningful reforms that would help slow down the deterioration, she noted.
