One of the world's toughest women, Merkel is standing down after 16 era-defining years at the helm of Germany, Europe's powerhouse.
While for some this is not a minute too soon, for others Merkel's absence will be keenly felt, as they pass revue over her legacy, where she has shown both her hard and soft side many times.
A traditional marzipan manufacturer in Odenwald is hoping to sweeten Merkel's departure, giving fans the chance to keep a Merkel on their mantelpiece or even to extend her reign by a couple of years.
The West German marzipan confectioners have been in business for 40 years, and while they now have machinery to do some of their mass production they have held on to their hand made skills as well.
The family business came up with their Merkel souvenir idea a couple of moths ago and are working to complete the line with their 8-man team. The first batch will take the team two days to complete and comprises 8 different making stages.
But for those with a sweet tooth and some nostalgia, 4.95 euros can buy you a little piece of Merkel to take home and savour.
