Sharjah24 – Reuters: Hollywood star Matt Damon and Oscar-winning director Tom McCarthy say the story of Amanda Knox, the American woman who was tried and acquitted of murder in Italy more than a decade ago, served as the inspiration for their new movie "Stillwater," but that the film is not based on her case.
Matt Damon says his new movie "Stillwater" was inspired by the infamous Amanda Knox case, but not based on it.
34-year-old American Knox was tried and acquitted of murder in Italy over the death of British student, Meredith Kercher, more than a decade ago.
She recently expressed her frustration with the movie , saying in a series of tweets that it seeks to profit off her name without her consent.
In the movie, Damon plays an Oklahoma oil worker Bill Baker.
He travels to France to visit his estranged student daughter Allison in prison, who is serving time for the murder of her roommate.
The storyline explores the struggles faced by Baker in a foreign country, as he tries to overcome cultural and language barriers to help Allison, when a new lead comes to light.
The movie - which is seen as a potential Oscar contender – was directed Tom McCarthy…who also insisted that Knox’s story was merely a source of inspiration.
