The Treasury said in a statement "among the individuals sanctioned today are seven key members of Myanmar 's military, which continues to repress the pro-democracy movement in the country and use lethal force against the people of Myanmar, including children and members of ethnic minority groups."
It added that the other 15 individuals are the spouses or adult children of previously designated senior Myanmar military officials whose financial networks have contributed to military officials' ill-gotten gains."
Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control Andrea Gacki said in this regard "today's action demonstrates that the United States will continue to impose increasing costs on Myanmar's military and promote accountability for those responsible for the military coup and ongoing violence, including by targeting sources of revenue for the military and its leaders."
Furthermore, the Department of Commerce is adding four entities to its Entity List that have "provided support to Myanmar's military."
In this regard, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement that the US "is committed to promoting accountability for the Myanmar military, the SAC (State Administration Council) and all those who have provided support for the military coup.
"The United States will remain a steadfast advocate for the people of Myanmar's ability to determine the future of their country," he remarked.
