Sharjah24 – AFP: Indonesian President Joko Widodo describes the sailors from the missing submarine as Indonesia's "best patriots", vowing to continue the search and rescue operation on Sunday.
The navy acknowledged Saturday that pieces of the submarine, including items from inside the vessel, had been retrieved. They declared that it had sunk, effectively ending any chance of finding survivors.

Joko Widodo, Indonesian President said, "The Indonesian navy has increased the status of KRI Nanggala 402 from lost contact, or submiss, to sunk or subsunk. This incident has shocked all of us."

Continuing his statement,  Joko Widodo, Indonesian President added, "We, the people of Indonesia, would like to convey deep sadness for this incident, especially to the family of the submarine crew. The crew were the nation's best sons, best patriots who safeguarded the nation's sovereignty."

He concluded, "All the best efforts for the search and rescue have been and will continue to be carried out. Let us all pray and hope for the best for the 53 best patriots who safeguarded our country's sovereignty."
