"We warn the United States that it will be better for them to stay far away from Crimea and our Black Sea coast. It will be for their own good," Russian TASS news agency quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov as saying.
"There is absolutely nothing for American ships to be near our shores, this is purely a provocative action. Provocative in the direct sense of the word, they are testing our strength, testing our nerves. They will not succeed," Ryabkov affirmed.
The United States planned to send two warships toward the Black Sea in line with the
Montreux Convention.
Russia had recalled its ambassador in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, for consultations, following US President Joseph Biden statements which Moscow considered insulting to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russia has annexed Crimea in 2015 after holding a general referendum during which the majority of the population voted in favor of joining Russia.
