Sharjah 24 – KUNA: Five Eastern European nations on Saturday reported some 55,052 new COVID-19 cases combined, in addition to a cumulative single-day death toll of 846, as the pandemic continues to spread exponentially across the region.
Health authorities in Poland recorded 26,405 cases to raise the total number to 2,036,700, while 349 deaths over the past day pushed the total to 49,159, government figures showed.

In the Czech Republic, 9,624 new cases raised the total number to 1459406, while the country's death toll has reached 24,530 to date, according to health ministry data.

Elsewhere, Romania said daily coronavirus cases rose by 6,096 to a total of 892,848, while 112 more people have succumbed to the disease to push the death toll to 22,132.

Hungary recorded 11,132 new cases and 227 deaths, raising the total to 560,971 and 180,068, respectively, according to health ministry figures.

Neighboring Slovakia's health ministry said its daily tally of COVID-19 cases jumped by 1,795 to a total of 347,994, while 84 deaths over the past 24 hours pushed the total to 8,987.
