Sharjah24 - KUNA: Japan reported 1,588 new cases of the coronavirus over the last 24 hours on Wednesday, raising the nation's total number to 409,129, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll rose by 98 to 6,623. Tokyo added 491 new infections, staying below 500 for the fourth straight day, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 105,024.The tallies exclude those who were linked to a virus-hit cruise ship in February. The government has extended the state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic for 10 prefectures including Tokyo and Osaka until March seven. Under the state of emergency, residents in the designated areas are urged to refrain from nonessential outings. Restaurants and other establishments are also asked to close by 08:00 p.m.
