Sharjah 24: Calligraphers’ homes in the Calligraphy Square in Sharjah witnessed the opening of the fifth edition of the “Ibdaat Khatateeb” exhibition in the presence of Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Culture, and Professor Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of cultural affairs section in the Department, in addition to the curators of the exhibition and an audience of Arabic calligraphy lovers, while adhering to preventive measures in place to curb the spread of the epidemic.

The fifth edition saw the participation of 56 affiliates to Sharjah mosques, Sharjah Women's union association, in addition to other participants from different parts of the country. 

The exhibits adorned the walls of the houses and reflected a considerable visual culture substantiated by the various kinds of calligraphy and Quranic texts and supplications as well as instructions.

Al Owais, accompanied by the attendees, toured the different pavilions of the exhibition and listened to explanations about the exhibits by Arabic calligraphy specialists, who detailed them about the long journey of the evolution of the Arabic calligraphy and the tireless efforts exerted to train calligraphers to master this art among whom several have won different prestigious prizes.

They added that talent, patience and dedication are needed to master Arabic calligraphy and that learning and mastering this art know no age. 

Katateeb programme was announced by the time Sharjah City won the title of Islamic Cultural Capital 2014 and commenced on 2015.

Similar exhibitions will be organised in the Eastern and Central Regions of the emirate in the upcoming period.
