  • What a professional should never leave home without
As busy, career driven individuals, every day we leave the house with our version of the essentials - some variety of smart phone, car keys, wallet/purse, and perhaps a takeaway coffee from our favourite barista. Most of these items will be drudged along with us throughout the day, amidst schedules of meetings, deadlines, and lunch dates.
Of course there are many more material objects that can be listed as a requirement for our day to function somewhat smoothly, but have you ever stopped to think that sometimes there are approaches that can be far more beneficial when taking on the day? We cannot always predict how our day will go but we can take charge of our own thoughts and actions, and therefore, it is important to be ready for anything while keeping a positive attitude.

As a man on the move, Medy Navani, Founder and Creative Director of Design Haus Medy, finds himself regularly out and about, meeting new clients and creating exciting projects. Here he gives his tips on what you should never leave home without, both materially and in demeanor.

1. The proper attire - It doesn’t matter where you are going or what the occasion is, my number one rule is to always make sure you leave the house looking well put together. This does not mean you have to be wearing an expensive outfit or formal wear, just whatever you decide on, ensure it is ironed and appropriate for the occasion. I am a huge fan of playing with your look and adding twists to classic styles. Take the time to plan out an outfit the night before and always add a touch of your personality. This will assure you are always starting the day with your best foot forward.

2. Add a smile - Life is too short to be in a bad mood, especially early in the morning. Keep a positive attitude from the moment you wake up as it will provide you with an influx of energy and motivation throughout the day. Face the world with a smile and have that can do attitude rub off on others. A smile is simple but effective and, luckily, something you can take everywhere with you.

3. Technology toys - Technology has been a great addition to making out lives easier, especially when we are out and about. A phone and laptop are easily mobile and ensure you can work anywhere, such as when we have a last minute task creep up or impromptu meeting. Working in a creative field, I like to move away from the traditional and opt for working on an Ipad pro with pencil. This is a great tool to scribble down notes and keeps you organized with your day to day tasks. As it is slim and smaller than a laptop, it is easy to take with me for those meetings outside the office. Download the concepts app and the only thing that can stop you is your imagination - or running out of battery.

4. Pay it forward - I find that positivity is infectious so I aspire to provide those around me with good energy wherever I go. I have a daily habit I like to abide by - the first ten people I see in the day, I provide them with a compliment. Being nice cost nothing and when you make others happy, it in turn makes you feel good. Sometimes all a person needs to turn their day around is a small, positive comment. Always take the opportunity to brighten someone’s day.

5. Sun essentials - As all of us know (or should) living in the Middle East, I would never leave home, or the office, without a bottle of water and sunglasses. With the sun beaming down on us the majority of the year, especially now in the summer months, ensuring you stay hydrated is very important. When you are dehydrated, your body and mind can become sluggish and tired. Sunglasses are not only are a great fashion accessory, but are also vital to protect our eyes from UV rays. Always make sure you are take steps to take care of yourself. Your body will thank you for it.
