Sharjah24 – Reuters: Sony on Monday (February 24) unveiled the latest update to its Xperia range of phones, which will feature advanced camera technology and 5G connectivity.
Speaking via streaming, President of Sony Communications Mitsuya Kishida said the newest incarnation of the flagship Xperia 1 Mark II phone will include features from the company's Alpha camera range, such as eye-tracking autofocus.

Equipped with three separate lenses, the handset will include a dedicated app to allow finer manual control over video and photo settings.

The device should begin shipping from spring onwards, Kishida said.

He also announced plans for a handset aimed at photography professionals known as the Xperia Pro, which is still in the development stage.

Using 5G microwave technology the device will be able to livestream video from professional cameras via a micro HDMI input and will also function as an external monitor for cameras.

Sony had originally planned to present the new phones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but the event was cancelled at the last minute due to concerns over the spread of coronavirus.

Sony, which usually pitch their phones to visually minded users taking advantage of their good screens and cameras, is a small player in the smartphone market, outside of the top 10 biggest sellers.

Kishida also presented a middle range water resistant phone, the Xperia 10 Mark II.
