Sharjah 24: Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” represented by the Commercial Control and Protection Department closed number of pharmacies in the emirate of Sharjah and gave other ones violations as well as alerted others after receiving complaints from number of consumers about raising the prices of goods, especially those related to face masks, sanitizers and hand covers (gloves), where preventive measures were taken in accordance with the adopted laws.
The Department was able to seize many pharmacies during its intensive inspection campaigns in Sharjah which reached around 28 pharmacies. As a result, 8 pharmacies were closed, 4 were violated and 9 were given notice. This comes within the Department's keenness to prevent exploitation and malpractice in the emirate and to control the markets in Sharjah. Also, it falls within it concerns to follow the preventive and precautionary measures to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In addition, the Department confirmed that it is taking all necessary measures to counter the exploitation of some of the merchants and dealers during the current circumstances, noting that the commercial officers teams are fully prepared to monitor these cases and abuses, and are working 24 hours per days to put an end to violators and abusers.

The campaigns conducted by the Commercial Control and Protection Department reflect the SEDD keenness to achieve the perfect balance in preserving consumer rights and not manipulating prices. It should be noted that the Department implemented inspection campaigns in various regions of Sharjah, which included various commercial activities, which resulted in seizing many violations, ranging from non-commitment to the pledge, instructions or conditions submitted to the Department, raising prices and other.
