Sharjah 24: A large number of families and nature lovers flocked to the Shis area of Khorfakkan, which became heavily crowded at the weekends during this winter.
Enjoying the wet weather, visitors wandered between farms and old stone houses, reveling in the springs, waterfalls and streams of valleys, following the heavy rains over the past period.

The new Khorfakkan Road, which was recently inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, at a cost of approximately AED6 billion, facilitated access to the Shis area, reducing the one-hour trip from Khorfakkan to less than 10 minutes.

The Shis region is a tourist destination for picnicking and exploration. Located in the eastern coast of the UAE, the area is characterised by mountainous terrain and narrow rocky paths. Abundant with large quantities of fresh water, people of the area have the chance to extend water channels from the springs in the high mountains to low agricultural lands, and palm farms.
