Sharjah24: The Friends of Breastfeeding Association, FBA, of the Health Promotion Department at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Wednesday honoured 16 nursing mothers as well as a number of staff members, who delivered babies over the past two years.
The event falls within the “Mabrouk Ma Yak Initiative” launched early this year by the FBA to congratulate mothers on the newborns and emphasise the importance of providing their babies with healthy nutrition and proper care through breastfeeding.

The FBA also honored companies sponsoring the event, in appreciation of valuable gifts they gave to mothers. Held at the Wasit Wetland Centre in Sharjah, the event was attended by Eng. Khawla Al Noman, Head of Breastfeeding Friends Association.

A brainstorming session was held on the sidelines of the event, through which the participants discussed and exchanged views on creative and innovative concepts that have a positive impact on developing the educational and awareness programs, in addition to putting forward initiatives that help raise health awareness among community members and providing all the support for nursing mothers to further protect their children and maintain their health, as part of the Association’s vision to achieve a healthy and happy society, thus boosting Sharjah’s status as a friendly and healthy city for both children and adolescents.

Importance of Voluntary Work
Eng. Khawla Al Noman stressed that the directives of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, were and still a source of inspiration for volunteer mothers who are actively participating in the FBA’s initiatives and programmes and that their inclination to doing charity and giving have motivated them to exert further efforts for the society.

While thanking and appreciating the significant role and fruitful cooperation of the volunteer mothers in serving the society and maintaining Sharjah’s position as a beacon for humanitarian work, Al Noman explained that this event primarily aims to elevate health awareness among community members about the importance of breastfeeding and stimulate mothers to continue breastfeeding, as this would help build a healthy family and society.

Motivated to Exert Further Efforts
A number of volunteer mothers and staff members expressed their happiness with this honoring which clearly reflects the FBA’s keenness on appreciating their efforts, adding that this will encourage them to pursue their humanitarian and voluntary work to raise mothers’ awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and follow healthy lifestyles to maintain their health and their children’s health.

Since it was founded under the patronage Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, the Friends of Breastfeeding Association is striving to improve the physical and psychological health of children and mothers by increasing breastfeeding, as the best way to form a healthy family relationship and achieve a safe community.
