FBA celebrates 19 years of remarkable accomplishments

Sharjah24: The Friends of Breastfeeding Association (FBA) of the Health Education Department at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs organised on Thursday its 19th annual ceremony, which included the graduation of the 13th batch of the Breastfeeding Guides Programme.
The event was held in the presence of Sheikha Aisha bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Her Excellency Eng. Khawla Al Noman, Head of Breastfeeding Friends Association, Her Excellency Iman Rashid Saif, Director of the Health Promotion Department, in addition to a number of directors and employees of some government institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah and representatives of sponsors, supporters, and volunteers in the association.

In her remarks, Sheikha Aisha bint Mohammed Al Qasimi commended the Association’s efforts in spreading the culture of breastfeeding. This would help ensure a healthy upbringing of children, thus enhancing their effectiveness in the future and their role in achieving the social renaissance of the UAE.

“Investing in the human being is always a priority in the agenda of the community institutions of the Emirate of Sharjah, in line with the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the support of the of His Highness’s Wife Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in terms of enhancing the position of Sharjah as a healthy and child-friendly city,” added Sheikha Aisha.


Building an Ideal & Healthy Family Relationship

Eng. Khawla Al Noman said: “This annual ceremony, through which we are celebrating the 19th anniversary of the establishment of Friends of Breastfeeding Association, represents an endless journey of giving. Such a journey which was initiated by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, with the aim of making our citizens in good health and happiness, so that their future will be full of achievements that uphold the UAE.”

“Since its inception, the Friends of Breastfeeding Association has worked tirelessly to improve the physical and psychological health of children and mothers through increasing rates of breastfeeding. This is the best way to build a healthy family relationship to achieve a safe society. Also, the association has spared no efforts in providing all forms of support for female breastfeeding guides and volunteers who shared the association its endeavors to encourage mothers to safeguard the health and safety of their children, so as to achieve a healthy society,” added Al Noman.

A Lot of Achievements Made

Eng. Al Noman pointed to the achievements made by the association through its constant efforts to raise the number of qualified, well-trained and skilled volunteers, reaching 45 volunteers from October 2018 to August 2019.

As for the services provided during the same period, the Association has made a number of awareness achievements including 578 phone consultations.

While the number of mothers benefited from the 25 awareness-raising events organized by the Association is 381 mothers.

While the number of awareness platforms reached 55 platforms, the number of lectures was 46 lectures, the number of workshops was 42 workshops, and the number of home visits was 21 visits.

The number of consultations provided through social media networks reached 288 consultations, in addition to 53 consultations during the events.

Furthermore, 22 new female trainees have enrolled in the Breastfeeding Guides Programme, while the number of volunteer hours reached 2262 hours.

The number of beneficiaries of the awareness programs launched by the Association during the World Breastfeeding Week reached 700 women.

The Head of Breastfeeding Friends Association thanked all the partners and those who are always keen to sponsor the Association’s programs and initiatives, appreciating their continued cooperation in providing the necessary capabilities to launch campaigns and programs by offering the necessary support in every way possible.

She also commended the efforts of all the volunteers for their stunning role in the Association’s initiatives, programs, and activities, and their fruitful cooperation in serving the community to consolidate humanitarian and national work and solidarity among members of society.

A Solid Foundation in Building the Society
In turn, the Arab Family Organisation, hailed the important role of the Association in improving the physical and mental health of children and mothers and encouraging breastfeeding as the best way to form a healthy and happy family relationship and thus creating a community that enjoys good qualities of mental and physical health.

She thanked Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs for her endless support to the Association’s initiatives and programs.

“The Arab Family Organisation’s strategy is focusing on the importance of the safety of individuals within the family entity, in light of the role of the healthy family in building the society. There’s a need to exert further efforts to bolster women in terms of breastfeeding

their children to protect the health and well-being of future generations,” she added.

The ceremony included a panel discussion with Dr. Wilhelmina from the Netherlands, who lives in the UAE for more than half a century, for her assistance and support to mothers.

The attendees also watched a video clip on the Association’s achievements and its contribution to raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding.

The event also witnessed the launch of an accompanying exhibition, during which 10 of the sponsors exhibited their products and presented many souvenirs to the participants and attendees.

At the end of the ceremony, Sheikha Aisha bint Mohammed Al Qasimi honored the sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and participants who took part in the success of the Association’s activities and activities in recognition of their efforts and their role in helping the Association to reach mothers and promote attention to children's health.

Also, graduation certificates were handed out to the female graduates of the 13th batch of the Breastfeeding Guides Programme.

Since its inception in 2004 under the patronage of the Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, the Friends of Breastfeeding Association is striving to improve the physical and psychological health of children and mothers by increasing breastfeeding, which is the best way to form a healthy family relationship to achieve a safe community.
