Sharjah 24 – KUNA: The Arab League on Monday threw its weight behind a UN agency supporting Palestinian refugees, saying it was necessary for the agency's mandate to be renewed.
Amid talks with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency's (UNRWA) Commissioner General Pierre Krahenbuhl, Arab League chief Ahmad Abul Gheit sought to shore up support ahead of a UN vote in November over the renewal of the UN agency's mandate.

He emphasised that UNRWA's work should remain unimpeded especially in the midst of "these trying times." Despite a staggering budget shortfall of USD 151 million, the UNRWA official said the UN agency would never cease to support some five million Palestinian refugees highly dependent on its aid.
