Sharjah24: The Sharjah men's handball team has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the General League competition after concluding the preliminary stage atop the table of the eight participating teams with 39 points. This followed their draw against host team Maliha with a score of 25-25 in the match held as part of the fourteenth and final round of the preliminary stage of the competition on Monday evening at the Maliha Cultural and Sports Club in Sharjah. The first half of the match ended in favour of Sharjah with a score of 15-14.

With this result, the team, who are famously dubbed the Sharjan Kings, managed to achieve 12 wins out of 14 matches, with only one draw against Maliha and a single loss to Dibba Al-Hisn, totaling 39 points. They scored 428 goals, making them the strongest offensive line, and had the second strongest defense in the preliminary stage, conceding 335 goals.

Sharjah, the leader of the preliminary stage, will face Maliha, ranked fourth, in the first leg of the competition's semi-final next Friday, May 3rd, at 7:00 PM at the Sharjah Stadium. The two teams will then meet again in the second leg on Tuesday, May 7th, at the same time.

This edition of the league competition for the 2023-2024 sports season consists of three stages to determine the champion and the overall ranking of the eight participating teams. It began with a preliminary stage in a league format over two rounds, followed by the semi-finals between the top four teams in two matches each, and concludes with the final round between the winners of the golden square, while the remaining teams from fifth to eighth compete in a single-round league to determine their positions.
