Sultan bin Ahmed: Holy Quran Academy is a unique institution

Sharjah24: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Council, stressed the importance of the Holy Quran Academy in Sharjah as a unique institution that celebrates many Quranic treasures and plays a key role in reflecting the glorious history of Quranic studies, recitations and the most prominent Quran reciters in the Arab and Islamic world.
This came during a visit by Sharjah Media Council’s members to the Holy Quran Academy on Sunday, 11 April, including His Excellency Dr Khalid Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Media City (SHAMS); His Excellency Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of Sharjah Government Media Bureau; and Hassan Yacoub Al Mansouri, Secretary General of the Sharjah Media Council. 

Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi lauded the relentless efforts exerted by the Holy Quran Academy members and staff in preserving the Quranic treasure and rare collections, which constitutes a distinct religious and scientific edifice in the Emirate of Sharjah. He pointed out to the remarkable role of the Academy that is not limited to taking visitors on a tour to view and appreciate its various manuscripts and pictures, but rather presents itself as an integrated hub embracing various intellectual and scholarly activities dedicated to Holy Quran sciences.

Earlier, Sherzad Abdul Rahman Taher, Secretary General of the Holy Quran Academy, welcomed the visitors and made a presentation about the Academy, highlighting its unique architectural design and the criteria chosen in the construction process to illuminate the elegance and beauty of its architectural design. 

Taher expressed deep gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for the limitless support in equipping the Academy with rare manuscripts, appreciating his keenness and constant endeavour to link the past with the present by offering historical collections and its highly evolved process of collection over the ages. 

The Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council toured the entire Academy and met with the readers at the global electronic readers section. He was briefed on the mechanism of their work and the method of participation from various parts of the world, as the Academy includes 27 Quran reciters and readers. 

He also visited the radio and television studio of the Holy Qur’an Academy that is equipped with the latest audiovisual technologies.
Sherzad Abdul Rahman Taher thanked Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi and the Sharjah Media Council’s members for their visit to acquaint themselves with the Academy’s facilities and activities covering a wide spectrum of Quranic science.  

The tour included a visit to the Scientific Library, the Museum of the History of Qur’an Writing from the first century to the 15h century Hijrah, the Museum of Anecdotes of Qur’ans, Famous Reciters Museum, which displays the collections of the most famous reciters from the Arab world, the Museum of Al Kaaba and the curtains of the noble Prophet’s chamber. 

The Holy Quran Academy in Sharjah is the largest, elegant and most widespread beacon of Quranic studies in the world built over more than 800,000 square feet. The Academy also features a museum that houses a rare collection of the rarest copies of the Quran and Islamic manuscripts, old treasures and exhibits.
